Who is the Cambodian King’s Mother?

 

Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, born June 18, 1936, is the Queen Mother of Cambodia. Her original name was Paule Monique Izzi. She met Norodom Sihanouk when he awarded her first prize in a beauty pageant. They married twice, the first time privately in 1952 and a second time officially in 1955.

Norodom Monineath Sihanouk served as the President of the Cambodian Red Cross from 1967 until the coup in 1970. During this time, she joined her husband in exile in Beijing, China, and also in North Korea.

The King Father (Norodom Sihanouk) and the Queen Mother (Norodom Monineath Sihanouk) have two children, both of them sons. The first is Cambodia’s current King, Norodom Sihamoni, and the second is Norodom Narindrapong.
