What is Phare the Cambodian Circus?

Phare is unlike any circus that you’ve ever seen before. The energy of the young Khmer performers transforms Phare into much more than a circus.

Enjoy traditional folk and modern-day Cambodian stories told through theater, music, dance, and daring acrobatic feats!

Phare, the Cambodian Circus is a part of Phare Ponleu Selpak, a non-profit Cambodian association focused on improving the lives of children, young adults, and their families through art, educational programs, and social support.

The nonprofit was created by nine men returning home after the Khmer Rouge regime in 1994. An art teacher helped the men recover through drawing classes as a form of creative therapy.

They created a free public school and art school to share their new found skills with the poor, socially deprived, and troubled youngsters in Battambang. These schools eventually led to the opening of a music school, theatre school, and circus school.
