We maintain this as our typical maximum small group size as it has always been a crucial strong point in all our guests’ reviews. Our guests have consistently praised our ability to accommodate small groups, and we’ve decided this to be our standard maximum group size.

What is special about Bayon Temple?

The plethora of placid and cheerful stone faces you will see on the Bayon’s many towers, which protrude from the upper terrace and cluster around the structure’s central peak, is without a doubt the most defining characteristic of this ancient structure.

Why is Ta Prohm temple famous?

Because of its attractive and entrancing combination of trees growing out of the ruins and the forest environs, Ta Prohm is one of the temples in Angkor that attracts the greatest number of visitors. Ta Prohm is one of the few Angkorian temples that has remained in much the same state in which the first explorers found it.

In our experience, all guests love taking pictures there and feeling the unique temple atmosphere.

What was Ta Prohm used for?

Ta Prohm was a Buddhist temple that was constructed beginning in 1186 and was first known as Rajavihara, which literally translates to “Monastery of the King.”

The temple was dedicated to the mother of Jayavarman VII. It is one of the few temples in the Angkor region that has an inscription that includes information on the people who lived at the temple and those who were reliant on it.

It is a bit of a maze, and you may find yourself traveling sideways, backward, but that’s all well. This temple is similar to the majority of temples in that there are display boards with suggested walking paths.

The narrow vertical bas-reliefs near entrances, the smiling faces on the western gate, the lintels and pediments, the overall greatness and appearance, and the incredible trees with their reptilian-like roots that are taking over the ruins are the highlights of this location.

This is why you need our local expert tour guide along the walk. There is so much to explore and to discover here at Ta Phrom.

Do you remember the movie Tomb Raider?

Where exactly did they film Tomb Raider? Angkor Wat or Ta Prohm?

Parts of the movie starring Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft, Tomb Raider, which was released in 2001, were shot at Ta Prohm.

In one scene, she walks past the towers in the southeast corner, continues along a ruinous corbelled roof section, walks past the iconic tree that has grown out of the enclosure, and picks a jasmine flower in front of the other iconic tree that frames the enclosure doorway in the central enclosure. All of these scenes were filmed at Ta Prohm.
